Of today's multitude of diverse and fascinating challenges, the most intense and important is how understand and shape the new technological revolution, which is nothing less than a transformation of humanity. We are at the beginning of a revolution that is changing fundamentally the way of living, working and relating to each other. On your scale, scope and complexity, what I consider to be the fourth industrial revolution is unlike anything humanity has experienced before. We have yet to fully understand the speed and breadth of this new revolution. Let's consider the limitless possibilities of having billions of people connected through mobile devices, resulting in processing power, an ability to unprecedented storage and access to knowledge. Or think of the awesomeconfluence of technological advancements spanning broad fields, such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, the internet of things (IoT), autonomous vehicles, 3D printing, nanotechnology, biotechnology, materials science, energy storage and quantum computing, to name a few. Many of these innovations are in their infancy, but they are already reaching a turning point in their development as they are built and amplify each other in a fusion of technologies across the physical, digital and biological. We are witnessing profound changes in all industries, marked by the appearance of new business models, the irruption of operators and the remodeling of theproduction, consumption, transportation and delivery. In the social sphere, there is a change in paradigm about how we work and communicate, as well as how we express ourselves, we we inform and entertain ourselves. Likewise, governments and institutions are reinventing themselves, as are the education, health and transportation systems, among many others. New ways of using technology to change behavior and our systems ofproduction and consumption also offer the possibility of supporting the regeneration and preservation of natural environments, rather than creating hidden costs in the form of externalities.
